Besides the comfort and durability of a pair of great-fitting boots, there is also the style factor. And there were several cowgirls at the recent Austin City Limits Music Festival who were sporting some real authentic cowgirl style. Only about one in every 500 to 1000 folks was wearing cowboy boots, so those that were wearing them stood out right away. Some of my favorite looks were a bright orange dress with very dark burnt-orange boots, faded blue denim cut-off shorts paired with slouchy tan boots, and one young man with tight dark-wash denim jeans and deep wine-colored boots with a slim tall heel. He looked great.
A few words of caution, however. Skirt lengths should be, in my opinion, age appropriate. And you can overdo it. There was one outfit that combined a turquoise and black print dress with black boots. Fair enough, but then she’d added a straw hat with turquoise and black trim, and turquoise and black knee-high socks. Just goes to show that a good idea can be taken a tad too far . . .
